Mietta's Review
Set on the terrace in front of a house amidst a lovely garden the shady tables under the frangipani trees give views down Darling St. Good breakfasts and simple lunches particularly the pissaladiere (a provencale pizza) with salad, $10.50. A charming and peaceful experience.

Sydney Eats 2009 "Sadly, we have to report that this Francophiliac cafe in a lovely old house with chairs in the garden no longer serves our favourite pissaladiere"

Sydney Eats 2008 "Walk through the garden, dappled with sunshine, to the cafe decorated with fabulous old film posters and other retro touches, and settle in for a treat"

SBS Eating Guide to Sydney 2005 "A daytime cafe for six days a week (it reverts to being a church on Sundays), this is a recommendation from Balmain-based French subtitler Corinne Vernizeau, who loves the flavour of Provence that you'll find here."

Sydney Cheap Eats 2005 "If the word from the Balmain crowd is anything to go by, there's a dish on the menu at the Circle Cafe that must surely be world-famous by now. While the chefs have changed, pissaladiere is still whipped up in biblical proportions."

The 'Wally' as it is known by locals is a reminder of the real working-class background of Balmain.
