Mietta's Review
Like its Adelaide cousin, the Red Ochre aims to offer insights into native ingredients in a fusion based menu. The diner can choose to sit in the verandahed courtyard where a stream of visitors pass to and from the hotel, or the more private and airconditioned indoor area. The entourage changes throughout the day. Breakfast is buffet style, with a shift to more dynamic fare with lunch and dinner. A skilled chef assembles attractive quality food here paying due regard to less commonly presented produce, but not at the cost of quality - native greens and fruits, as well as not so ubiquitous cuts of livestock (camel, buffalo...) appear on the menu. It may also prove to be the only place to safely enjoy the dubious merits of emu and crocodile. The staff are willing and casually efficient, knowledgeable and cheerful - a boon to the non english speaking tourists who frequent here.

Courier Mail food and wine guide Queensland 2008 Score: 12/20 "Sitting smack bang in the heart of the Todd Mall and serving a range of Australiana-style fare, this s a restaurant most likely to draw an audience of tourists rather than a home-grown crowd"
