Mietta's Review
Bittern is the end of the train line, a little inland town on the Mornington Peninsula, it's where Noel and Jenny Burrows run their restaurant with care and concern for their guests. The food, provincial French, is served in a cosy room with an open fire. They have set menu lunch and dinners on the weekends and once a month there are musical lunches. The locals love it.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2009 "This idiosyncratic, slightly old-world haven of provincial France won't appeal to everyone, but those in favour of earthy, honest food - and the kind of service where the host greets you in the car park - will love it"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 "Well-loved Bittern Cottage has its menu tipped firmly towards Slow Food principles and regional, seasonal produce"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "A museum piece in more ways than one, this weatherboard cottage recalls a time when a young couple could start a restaurant without the aid of designers, publicists and a giant loan. Twenty-six years later, Jenny and Noel Burrows are still dispensing bonhomie and quality home cooking from their varnished-pine open kitchen."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 13/20 "AFTER 25 years of service, Noel and Jenny Burrows have the Bittern Cottage experience down to a fine art. The old weatherboard is set in a rambling garden; the dining room is a simply furnished gallery adjacent to the original house. Guests are welcomed like family and the food is prepared with all the love of mum's Sunday roast."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Warm and hospitable, romantic and quaint. The menu features local produce heavily and except for Friday night is usually a set price;it's also BYO-grab a bottle on the drive down and settle in for some hearty European fare.'

AGFG 2004, score 14/20

The Age, A2, 31/1/04, Jane Faulkner,'one of the most delightful on the peninusula with no sign of tiring'
