Mietta's Review
A Hawker style cafe serving south Asian and Indian food at almost non-existent prices. Order and pay at the counter, find a seat and wait for the helpful, friendly staff to bring your choice to you. Lots of vegetarian options and a cheery atmosphere.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Bismi isn't slick but the pov students and young families who cram the clattering, fluoro-lit shopfront don't come for the decor"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "A Sydney Road shopfront hides not another kebaberie, but one of the city's most authentic south Asian eateries. Melburnians with adventurous tastebuds come for bright-red tandooristyle chicken, plain or filled roti hot from the griddle, oil-slicked biryani, or a curry from regularly replenished pots: perhaps mild spinach, feisty lamb or soul-warming chickpea masala."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 First-timers are easy to spot at Bismi. Passing the hot counter filled with vibrant curries and biryanis their eyes noticeably widen, even more so when they see the prices. Then they order too much

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "IT'S a hunger-charged scrum at this laminate-and-lino shrine to south Asian cuisine."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "More hawker stall than cafe, it serves up bargainpriced, home-style Asian food to a mixed clientele. Bearded Muslim clerics, giggling overseas students and couples"

Age A2 Thomas Hunter 27/11/04 "The dining rooms are filled with basic furniture, and you need to order from the front counter before sitting down. But the staff are attentive, and regardless of how many people they're serving, wait times are impressively brief. With typical Indian hospitality, the menu is big and inviting."

The Age, Epicure, Unexplored Territory, 15/4/03, Matt Preston. "Budget friendly, 100 per cent halal Singapore-style Indian cuisine."

Sunday Herald Sun, sunday magazine, eating out, 2003, Sally Fisher. Serves Malaysian-style roti along with curries, or have them stuffed with a variety of fillings.
