Mietta's Review
Melissa's is an institution. If only for the fact that they have sold over 500 pieces of spanakopita a day for the last three decades. It is a family run business, two generations of the Katakis family have owned and run it. The pastries are good, the coffee is excellent, it is a landmark of Smith Street. This year saw the opening of another Melissa Cake Shop, offering exactly the same menu in more modern surrounds, at 661 High Street, Thornbury (03) 9484 4904.

The Age, Sunday Life, 14/12/03, Roslyn Grundy,'Taste junkies form a queue as they await their next spanakopita fix.The combination of spinach, cheese, butter and flaky filo makes this a pleasurable way to eat your greens.Other pastries have their own fans.' Herald Sun, citystyle, Casual Dining, Donna Coutts, 1/4/03. Score 17/20.
