Mietta's Review
A large well set-up restaurant with an immediate greeting from the cash desk at the door. Go past the roasting meats on the other side of the entry, up a few stairs and into the main room with its large white clothed tables and happy throng of Chinese families. Knowledge and money have been invested in this restaurant but it could do with more hands on management at the moment. This is not a cheap restaurant for the area.

Age Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 12.5/20 "While exotic 'off-menu' items like braised abalone provide a strong draw for an evening visit to Tai Pan, try a weekend lunch if you want the most quintessential taste of this easternsuburban cousin to city flagship Red Emperor"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "It deserves no design awards - in fact, the utilitarian, multi-tiered Tal Pan surrounded by a cavernous carpark would probably send a feng shui consultant into a spin - but the suburban sibling of Southbank's Red Emperor boasts a reliable standard of food that accounts for its favour among the local Chinese community, who seem to head here whenever there's cause for celebration"

The Age Good Food Guide 2005"TAIPAN is one of the bigger restaurants servicing Doncaster's Chinese community. Pass under the pink neon portal and you'll be thrust into a spacious, modern but slightly tatty split-level emporium"

The Age A2 5/02/05 Rita Erlich "It's a big, practical restaurant, comfortable even when crowded, since the 200 or so diners are spread through several rooms. You may bring your own wine, but there's a fair wine list."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Don't even think of dropping by here on the weekend without a booking. It's big,it's bustling, with a queue out the door (and we won't even mention the car park rage!)'

AGFG 2004, score 13/20
