Mietta's Review
The latest from Geoff Maloof (brother of chef, Greg, and owner of Carlton's Zum Zum). A simple, bright, rather noisy room is the setting for the modern Middle-Eastern food. There are lots of vegetarian offerings and the charcoal grill flavours many of the meat and fish dishes. As expected the service is competent and the prices reasonable.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 12.5/20 "Middle Eastern food isn't as profound to Melbourne's culinary heritage as, say, Italian, but it's getting there. Arabesque owner Geoff Malouf is one of the brethren partly responsible for the movement, expressed here in casual, userfriendly style"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "Smoking is banned in restaurants, right? So it could only be a great conspiracy that allows this casual eatery to get away with a law-breaking baba ghanoush that turns eggplant, garlic and charcoal into transcendent, smoky mush"

Herald Sun Stephen Downes, 6-02-07 Score: 14/20 "Arabesque lists Moroccan mint tea, Arabic coffee and Syrian wildflower tea ona limited list of beverages. Four table whites and the same number of reds at cheap prices and covering most popular grape varieties are sold by the glass or bottle. BYO is a bargain option, bearing in mind the simple freshness of Arabesque's food."

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 "Geoff Malouf has provided a welcome addition to the sparse epicurean landscape of Elsternwick. His new venture a Middle Eastern grill - is nestled on the ground floor of a squat apartment building, far enough from the hubbub of Glen Huntly Road."

Age Liz Cincotta May 05 "Overall, I'd be happy to head back to Arabesque. The people at the top are experienced and committed to this style of food, and are more than likely to steer this restaurant towards success. Maybe they'll even have a hand in turning Elsternwick into a foodie destination."
