Mietta's Review
A deep double shopfront in busy Burke Rd has been transformed into Tea House. The accent has moved from Schezuan (tea smoked duck, etc) to Canton, and the service in such a busy restaurant isn't and could never be as personal as at the original Tea House in Box Hill. That said, this is a tremendous success in Camberwell. It is crammed to the doors with an affluent middle class clientele from the neighbourhood and surrounding suburbs. Its loyal customers see it as a ray of light in an otherwise fairly uninspiring culinary area. The setting is not overtly 'Chinese' apart from the obligatory laquered screens near the door. The service is professional, the price, though higher than in a more Asian suburb, is reasonable and the food is good. Also Teahouse at Chinatown, 11 Cohen Place, Melbourne, 03 9639 2526.
