Mietta's Review
A bright, sometimes noisy place with a fresh interesting flavour to its style and its dishes. The influence is from Eastern Europe, sausages are 'gypsy' and rice in broth is rizoto. Makes a refreshing change for the business diners, notably lawyers who fill the 'cofetarie' at lunch. A bar menu has recently been introduced for those in a hurry or want to take goulash or soup back to eat at their desk.

Other published opinions

The Weekend Australian, 20.11.99, Stephen Downes review "So come in from the cold at Gust Cofetarie in the city, where there's no wind at all. Moreover, you'll get the best of the east's cuisine here - mainly Romanian, thanks to one of its owners."

The Herald Sun, 12.10.99, Stephen Downes review "Gust's fresh and well-made dishes are worth trying. Moreover, an excellent medium-sized wine list is fairly priced and offers lots of drops by the glass. Gust's cafeteria style doesn't look the part for lingering diners. Score: 15 out of 20"

The Sunday Age, 08.08.99, John Schauble "This is a very different and interesting place to eat, offering a contemorary interpretation on a cuisine with which most Australians have only a passing acquaintance. There is a strong emphasis on vegetable dishes, a surprising mixture of flavours and birght and interesting presentation. The service is brisk and attentive - at times too attentive. A good wine list with serveral offerings by the glass. (The only real downer was warm water.) You're going to have to ask for the menu to be explained here. Don't be shy: it shows you're thinking about the food. Now, go there. Score: two and a half stars."

The Sunday Age, 10.04.99 "Think modern cafe food with a twist."

The Age, 23.03.99, John Lethlean "A refreshing approach to modern food. Gust has most of the bases covered. Score: 15 out of 20."

The Age, 01.03.99, John Lethlean "Think funky decor, wines, espresso and Eastern Europe's answer to tapas...Think Identity, because in a city with a thousand smart restaurants doing the same style of food, Gust may have hit on something quite new. It's already busy."
