Mietta's Review
The situation is fabulous - a basement filled with antiques and fantasy. The large space is truly another world. Part is the restaurant and separated from it by a Spanish wrought iron grill is the bar. Great wine selection at reasonable prices. The restaurant served fashionable 'modern mediterranean' food.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 14/20 "Descend the bluestone stairway off Driver Lane to a basement vault of plush eccentricity. A wrought-iron entrance door swings open unassisted, presenting a cave-like wine cellar bristling with aged vintages"

Herald Sun Stephen Downes, 23-09-08 Score: 12/20 "My score presumes the dust will have have been removed by the time you try Money Order Office. Dishes were often interesting but quite expensive, especially for their modest sizes. Sauces and purees needed to be a little heavier and more voluminous to integrate what we ate. And I plead for the many thousands of poor among us who like drinking wine."

The Age John Lethlean, 2-9-2008 Score: 14/20 "MOO still looks and feels unique; it has a stonking collection of collectable Australian wine available to the cashed-up punter; the staff are personable and professional; and the food, by this current duo, is good. Occasionally excellent. It's a mostly European style of cooking that seems more than a little inspired by the style of Andrew McConnell, the chef/owner at Three, One, Two and Cumulus Inc. And that's what I'd call inspired inspiration."

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13.5/20 "It may be only a few years old, but a laneway locale and an eclectic, plush interior make MOO feel like a Melbourne institution, albeit a difficultto-find one"

The Age Cheap Eats Bars 2007 "Secluded booths, clusters of high-backed chesterfields and antique fixtures make this basement wine bar feel like a private club, where people with hyphenated names play bridge and talk golf."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 This beautiful basement is not only home to a wonderful collection of antiques, it also houses a significant wine collection

The Age Liz Cincotta November 25, 2005 "Melbourne's old Money Order Office has had several incarnations. It was once the office for illegal aliens, a slightly different bent from its current life as luscious restaurant and wine bar. Voted Australian Wine Bar of the Year, M.O.O. is kitted out with period fittings that co-partner Callum Baker-Ralton has collected on his travels."

The Age Epicure John Lethlean December 7, 2004 score 13/20 "A great, unique space with enormous potential but patchy food. The wine list helps. FOOD Modern Mediterranean COST Typical small dish $16.50; typical main $30 WINE LIST Excellent, with a broad selection of interesting wines, across a broad price range, with rare vintages of icon wines SERVICE Fine VALUE Fair"
