Mietta's Review
Frank Camorra was born in Spain, raised in Australia and worked as a chef in his native country. At Movida he brings the tastes of his homeland to his adopted country. Terrific tapas, main courses and of course, the wines and sherry, have filled this back-street funky/cum bar with a loyal clientele. Seating is at table, bar or laid back on lounges.

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 15.5/20, One Hat "You can't please all the people all the time unless you're MoVida, a restaurant that's still hotter than habanero even though it's no longer new"

Gourmet Traveller 2008 Australian Restaurant Guide Score: * "Spain's current culinary hot spot status is probably contributing to the difficulty of securing a table at MoVida, but this effortlessly cool wood and terracotta-toned Spanish joint would pack them in no matter what trends were blowing past its laneway entrance"

The Age Melinda Houston 23/2/06 "It may not feature flamenco, but this laneway bar still offers a touch of Spain."

The Age Epicure John Lethlean December 15, 2005 "We get our beer, cold and fast, and a table not too long afterwards, but then the sights, smells and sounds of the open kitchen have their wicked way with us. That kitchen is a shrine to the flavours of pork and paprika, saffron and anchovies, morcilla (black pudding) and piquillo peppers, and the harmony of food and booze together is particularly sweet here. Right now, the food at MoVida is as good as I can remember it."

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "Location, location, location. MoVida notches up Euro cred simply by being sited in an anonymous, grungy laneway. Terracotta tiles and mellow lighting soften the sleek lines of this stylish bar de tapas'. Slide on to a stool at the bar amid knots of chatty business and artsy folk, or retreat to one of the well-spaced tables."

Gourmet Traveller 2006 Australian Restaurant Guide "MoVida Bar de Tapas y Vino - to give this flexible little bunker its full-head of marketing-steam - is chef Frank Camorra's personal interpretation of an inner-Madrid neighbourhood bodega. And the Spanish-born, Melbourne-raised and trained Camorra should know: Spain is his passion."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 "The man behind this Spanish love affair is MoVida chef and part-owner Frank Camorra, whose customers have followed him to this buzzy laneway 'bar de tapas y vino' from his previous home, a tavern on the CBD fringe."

Gourmet Traveller 2005 Restaurant Guide "This funky restaurant/bar in one of Melbourne's funkiest alleyways (just think - in any other city this phrase might sound like a mistake) goes a long way to altering these perceptions, offering what is probably the country's best facsimile of the great Spanish art of grazing and drinking."

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "THE tapas trend may have careered across Melbourne like a snorting bull, but it's at MoVida that Spanish victuals have really found an antipodean home. Find a space on one of the couches or by the blondwood bar to embrace the gregariously real Castilian feel."

Herald Sun CityStyle Best of Melbourne 04 Best tapas "Sit at the bar with a glass of Manzanilla, snacking on peppers stuffed with salt cod or bread topped with fresh anchovies and pretend you're back in Saint Sebastian."

The Age, A2, 15/5/04,Jane Faulkner,'MoVida has become a hit. People love good tapas...it's very casual, vibrant, loud and more on the bar side of the dining equation. All great stuff...it offers some of the best tapas and sherries in town.'

The Age Cheap Eats 2004,'grab a spot at the blondwood bar or on the or on the comfy couches and quaff Spanish beers and wines while nibbling queso manchego topped with quince paste'

Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, 21/3/04, Jane Huthcinson,'a sleek bar-cum-restaurant full of bright young things sipping unpronounceable Spanish wines and shairng fresh, innovative food...There's a lively buzz, terrific, well-priced food'

Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, 14/3/04, Jane Hutchinson,'Order the salmorejo cordobes (tomato cream dip,$7.50) and the blood pudding ($8) with a glass of fino sherry.'

Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, 29/2/04, Sally Fisher,'This place is faultless and pleasingly hard to find, on the fringe of the old rag-trade strip in Flinders Lane...It's small and the bar throngs'

The Age, Epciure, 17/2/04, Melinda Houston,'So many bars in Melbourne do fabulous food.'

The Age, Sunday Life, 8/2/04, John Lethlean,'part tapas bar, part casual restaurant, part club...The chef's aim is for authentic regional Spanish cooking'
