Mietta's Review
Nudel Bar found its conviction early in the piece and continues on its path. Convenient, quick, the menu comprises pasta and Asian style noodles from kway teow to macaroni cheese. Serves are large, flavoursome and a cheap option at this end of the city. There are many vegetarian options and a great list of wines by the glass. Sit outside on Bourke St if downstairs in the bar room gets busy or upstairs in the long narrow room that is perfect for large rowdy groups.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Through the passing years of fad and fashion, Nudel Bar has held its own by providing for those who know their vermicelli from their spaetzle. Whether you're after something wokked or wet, choose your noodle and things will fall into place: thick egg noodles are matched with creamy coconut, kaffir lime and chicken curry; the green-tea variety comes cold with lemon, avocado, wasabi and ginger; and spaghetti is served up with garlic, parsley and a kick of chilli."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Nudel Bar knows its noodles. But it also knows its customers, which explains why this stayer has survived fickle food fads and fashions.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "ANY menu that takes in curry puffs, penne napoli and goulash with spatzli noodles runs the risk of suffering for its rootlessness. But here, the lack of geographic identity is outweighed by the passion co-ownerchef John Mackay brings to his cooking."

The Age,A2,3/7/04,Thomas Hunter,'the Nudel Bar offers an eccentric mix of Asian and Italian dishes.Purists might say that's a risk, that you're either one or the other.Well, the Nudel Bar is both, and it's been satisfying pre-theatre diners and lunching office types since it opened...They stay true to the original dishes, giving his meals the sort of authenticity you can expect from specialist restaurants.'

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Not just noodles;there's also an array of pasta dishes from Europe, such as the best macaroni cheese in town and Hungarian goulash with spatzli. The Asian dishes reign supreme through;the chair kwai teow and the Japanese cold soba noodles salad are outstanding. All dishes stick close to the originals, but with a touch of quality not always found at other restaurants.'

The Age Cheap Eats 2004,Good vegetarian dishes,Good,'Nudel Bar still attracts regulars who slide on to stools downstairs to devour cold green tea noodles,or head upstairs to survey the street and tackle curry laksa or cheesy macaroni.'

AGFG 2004, score 12/20, excellent wine list, wide selection vegetarian dishes

Herald Sun, sunday magazine, eating out, Sally Fisher, 2003. Many of the dishes are perfect for winter dining.
