Mietta's Review The Sebel Hotel has taken residency in one of the grand old buildings of Collins St, it's restaurant, The Treasury, is situated on one side of a large open space that used to be the lobby. It is a very open space, both horizontally and vertically, and vulnerable to various distractions - noise, music and laughter from the bar and from above, people walking around the 'gallery' areas on upper levels. There have been a couple of obstacles for the kitchen to over come in the past, but with a simple menu, it's hit its straps. It is popular at lunch with the business types, and for dinner it's a good spot for guests to entertain friends. The service is friendly, courteous and attentive.
Other published opinions
The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "Housed in one of Melbourne's grandest dining rooms. Treasury is a seductive experience. The cathedral-like space in the former Bank of Australasia building has soaring ceilings, imposing columns, and ornate gilded mirrors. Snappily dressed staff discreetly work tables of businessfolk and tourists staying at the Sebel Hotel upstairs. But despite initial impressions, Treasury is a friendly and inviting place."
AGFG 2004, score 13/20, excellent wine list
The Herald Sun, Food&wine, Dining out, Bob Hart, 22/10/02, Score 12/20. "Treasury stared rather well, but now seems intent on becoming the merest shadow od its delectable self."
The Herald Sun, Weekend, Eat Up, Bob Hart, 29/6/02 "Treasury is the real deal - a fine rest. powered by an outstanding young chef who already has influenced the way we love to eat.
