Mietta's Review
A tiny, nondescript shopfront is home to the beautiful sushi and sashimi of Akira Kageyarra. As well as this there is a range of tradition Japanese dishes prepared in the equally tiny kitchen at the rear. The attention here is all on the lovingly presented food.

Age Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 13.5/20 "There's as big a difference between the sushi served in those innumerable sushi/cafe places and the real McCoy-san as between a dim sim and a shark-fin dumpling. In his neat little bar in Greville Street, Akira Kageyama meticulously prepares the genuine item"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 14.5/20 "Proof of the 'small is beautiful' theory, Sushi Bar Aka Tombo packs a lot of good eating into one tiny shopiront. Flash-free decor - light green walls, deep red ceiling, boxy rice paper lightshades, a glass cabinet laden with glisteningly fresh fish - provides a comfortably neutral background in which to appreciate the small treasures, beautifully presented on traditional Japanese ceramics, that soon start to appear"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 14/20 "If you just wandered into this Greville Street shopfront, expecting a quick, basic lunch before continuing the search for the perfect shoes, you'd be blown away. It doesn't look like much - a slightly gloomy space barely big enough for a sushi counter and a few tables - but the food and the presentation shame many flashier establishments."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 14/20 "SLIDE into this little gem of a sushi bar and the first thing you'll see is gleaming fish and curls of octopus legs enticingly displayed in a shiny glass cabinet. Kyotoan chef Akira Kageyama works the tiny bar, turning out some of the most beautifully crafted and garnished sushi and sashimi in town."
