Mietta's Review
This pub's proximity to the MCG makes it the choice of Coodabeen Champions' Jeff Richardson on the big day. "The beer garden here is as a beer garden should be: simple, unadorned, and shady or sunny to taste. It will also be packed with footy goers. Orders for drinks and meals are made through a hole in the wall. Steak, chips and salad is the go. And pots all round while you listen for your order number to be called".

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "This boozer is so close to the MCG you almost expect a wayward torp to lob the fence of its tree-lined beer garden"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Footy rules at the London - in season, you can almost hear the crowd roaring, 'Ball!' from the MCG. Passions run high on match day (especially in the enormous beer garden), but while the language and clientele is suitably colourful, this pub is serious about food."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 The London might present a calm exterior to the street, but inside it can really roar. Crowds pack in here nightly for the top-notch pub nosh and the Tigerland conviviality

The Age (melbourne) Magazine May 05 Gastro Pubs John Lethlean "The London Tavern Hotel 238 Lennox Street, Richmond, 9428 6894 The London's no flash Harry, but it has a lot going for it if you want to eat well"

The Age,A2,5/7/04,John Weldon,'The London Tavern is one which is still a sports bar and beer garden capable of ensnaring even the most jaded of designer-pub diners...There are splashes of Middle Easter,Mediterranean and South East Asian on the bar menu, but also great pub stalwarts-such as chicken schnitzel and parmigiana both of course served with chips and salad.'

Herald Sun, citystyle, 9/3/04, Greg Thom,' Guranteed to be packed when the Tiges are playing at home, the Tavern didn't let us down.A glorious blend of lived-in bar full of colourful locals, one of the biggest and best beer gardens in Melbourne and great food.'

The Age, Epicure, Espresso, John Lethlean, 19/11/02. Former Blake's Cafeteria chef Peter Rankin has joined the London Tavern aiming to cook smart "real" food.

Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, 2003, Lyall Corless, Score 7/10,'Popular pub that offers something for everyone.'
