Mietta's Review
You can still buy milk bar essentials at Cowderoy's as well as up to the minute coffee and light snacky meals. There's a play ground next door so sit on the overlooking balconey and watch the ankle-biters entertain themselves. Nice neighbourhood asset.

The Age Cheap Eats 2009 "It's not difficult to see why this gentrified milk bar serves as coffee central for local families"

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Trip your way through the clutter of trikes and you'll see why this milk bar-turned-cafe is such a hit with local parents"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "As anyone who's ever watched Hairy Maclary knows, 'dairy' is the New Zealand equivalent of milkbar. And, as the tangle of tiny trikes out front suggests, kids make up much of Cowderoy's weekend clientele."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 The folk at this determinedly lo-fi milk-bar cafe like to do things their way. They don't take orders at the table ... they don't bring water ... and they don't scramble eggs ... But what Cowderoy's does do, it does well

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "THERE'S something delightfully timeless about this milk-bar-turned-cafe. It's the sort of place we like to think existed in our childhood: a place where neighbours chat over coffee while others drop in for overlooked ingredients."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004,Excellent breakfasts,Somewhere we highly recommend,'you can also enjoy a courtyard brunch of muesli with luscious poached fruit,or field mushrooms with melted taleggio on olive toast.Light lunches range from Moroccan pumpkin soup to chilli con carne,or buy some Yarra Valley Pasta or Portuguese tarts to go.'

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michelle Curtis,'Is it a milk bar, dairy or feeding hole?Hard to tell;there are sandwiches to go,farmhouse goodies in the fridge, good coffee and all the basics that every milk bar has to have.'

The Age, Agenda, 14/3/04, Roslyn Grundy,'Situated beside a shady playground, this milk-bar cafe is a favoured stop on the pram-pushing and dog walking circuit...Caffeine for the grown-ups, water for the mutts, slides for the kids-everyone's sorted.'

The Age, Epicure, 18/1/03, Matt Preston,' It's basically a smart modernisation of the milk bar concept...A blackboard menu bulges with everything from steak sangers and a macaron and tuna bake to chicken chilli con carne or pumpkin curry.'

Herald Sun, citystyle, Eat Treats, 6/5/03, Michael Harden. One of Melbourne's hidden gems.

Age, Epicure, Under $10, Matt Preston, "This art deco milk bar has had a new lease of life."
