Mietta's Review
When the council widened the footpath at the corner of Green St they also planted trees. Tusk have taken this little Oasis as their own and scattered tables on the brick paving amongst the greenery. In cold weather they are sheltered by thick transparent plastic sheets suspended from the verandah and warmed by gas heaters. Inside the funky room has a shop-window at the front, complete with bench for reading while checking out the passing parade on Chapel, and other windows giving onto smoker's heaven in Green St. The exposed kitchen makes the room a bit grungy and the ceaseless clatter of the staff and their exuberant shouts overlaid on the loud driving beat of the music make earplugs a good idea for anyone over 35. But then this isn't really pitched at old non-smokers. Under the attitude the service is friendly and efficient. The food is fine and competitively priced for the area. But, the real thing here is the unique situation.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "With the golden tones of a setting sun beaming down on you from the wall mural, it always feels like it's time for a pina colada at Tusk, and luckily they mix a decent one here"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Bask in the glow of a tropical island sunset (a la wallpaper mural) at retro Tusk, or hustle for an armchair on the leafy Green Street corner. Switched-on waitstaff will bring you a choice of favourites, like chicken parma layered with ham, saucy tomato and melted tasty and mozzarella, or whopping pub-style beef or veg burgers, secured with a stake and served with thick-cut chips."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Even if your budget's inflexible, you'll still need an expandable waistline to eat at Tusk. Skint students and cash-strapped families struggle to finish bowls of spicy, chunky, garlicky chicken and vegetable soup

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "Tusk's many admirers swing by for coffee in the leafy courtyard or to dine in the dimly lit '70s interior, admiring the orange-and-brown colour scheme, the stained glass and the palm tree mural."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004,Excellent breakfasts,Somewhere we highly recommend,'Midweek, skint students tackle enormous burgers. At weekends, chorizo omelettes help the hangovered, and right through the week, great coffee gives everyone a boost...There's nothing shy about portions or staff, who dress Windsor cool but serve with a warm smile.'

THe Age, Epicure, Under $10, 7/5/02. "Chilled atmosphere, friendly service, pleasant surrounds, excellant food and big serves."
